Now that it’s Women’s Month, I wanted to use #MarchMagic as a way to highlight a different woman of color every Friday who is paving her way through male dominated spaces.

Meet Maya Indigo, the talented 19 year old creative who’s documenting her most personal moments through short film. The DMV raised but Philly based filmmaker found her love of film during a video production class she once found intimidating. Since then she’s created and directed three short films — “When He Calls”, “Dream of the Navigator”, and “my first” — that all focus on different narratives of relationships.

Do you remember your first crush? Your first love? Or even your first time? In her latest film, “my first”, Maya takes us back to a place we’ve all been before. Though the short film — which features music from Peyton’s Roller Coaster EP — has no dialogue, the actions and body language displayed between the main characters speaks volumes.

I’m looking forward to what Maya Indigo will bring to the film industry in the very near future! In the meantime, checkout Maya’s latest short film, “my first” below:
