Last month, I headed to SOBs for Alex Wiley’s first headlining show in NY. Though I didn’t know many of the people on the bill, I’m really happy I went. Every act from Trial & Era to Alex Wiley killed it all while performing with a live band! One rapper that stood out to me in particular was Tunji Ige.

Tunji Ige has been making some noise for a while now. Last summer, the Philly native dropped “Day 2 Day” then in late September followed up with a video for the remix featuring Michael Christmas and iLoveMakkonen.

Shortly after the concert ended, I listened to Tunji’s debut mixtape, The Love Project. I played it on repeat for a week straightI loved it. According to an interview with Noisey, Tunji recorded the entire mixtape in the basement of his West Chester University dorm (talk about dedication). The Love Project was produced, written, mixed and mastered by the rapper himself.

Some standout tracks from the tape include: “Ball is Life”, “For Us”, and of course “Day 2 Day”.

So after turning up during a slew of performances at this year’s SXSW, what’s up next for the 19 year old rapper? More performances and more music. Tunji has continued to gain momentum and released two new tracks this month: “Spotlite” featuring Atlanta rapper, Rome Fortune and the self produced “Moving” which features Grande Marshall and Wara.
